Short trip or not, keep Park Güell.
Allow 1.5-2 hrs.
Up close, the place is stranger and more architectural than the usual dragon photograph suggests. Broken tile wraps the long bench, columns lean like tree trunks and the gatehouses turn a failed housing development into a convincing piece of theatre. The pleasure drops quickly once the terrace fills, and the uphill approaches are less charming in full heat. Ninety focused minutes is usually enough.
